delle Venezie Appellation

The Appellation represents the sincere will of the north-est of Italy supply chains (living on the regions of the autonomous province of Trento, the autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Veneto Region) to ensure the protection of the denomination of origin of Pinot grigio, also enhancing the entire production previously marketed with the IGT.

In terms of numbers, 85% of the Italian production, the first in the world by volume, is produced in the Triveneto area. Only here, in 2016, were 23,374 hectares of vineyards reached, with significant increases compared to 2014 (+ 30.3% in Veneto, + 23.2% in Friuli Venezia Giulia and + 4.5% in the Province of Trento).

“Revolution”

It is the most suitable term to describe the change taking place in Italy north-east with regard to Pinot grigio. It is a Revolution of surfaces but also in viticulture, which is young (since 2010 in Veneto it has more than doubled) and led by young people. The hottest topics are currently innovation and technology, a more careful management of the vineyard, a correct and targeted use of water, excellent management of the canopy, greater attention to the use of genetic material, as well as environmental sustainability .

The qualification process of the new Appellation, started thanks to a courageous disciplinary aimed with decision on quality, has redefined the reference values ​​for each production phase with the aim of enhancing all Pinot grigio wines, decreasing the production by as much as 26 hectoliters / hectare compared to IGT. This allowed a significant improvement in the quality parameters of the final product that will be labeled as Pinot grigio delle Venezie DOC.

A Coordinated System

Whether DOC delle Venezie, or labeled according to the specifications of one of the 20 territorial DOCs that historically produce Pinot grigio, starting from the 2017 harvest all Triveneto products will be certified so as to compose a coordinated and guaranteed System for the benefit of the Final Consumer.
