“DESIGNATION AND PRESENTATION OF PRODUCTS”

COULD “DELLE VENEZIE” WINES BE PURCHAISED TO CONSUMPTION IN BULK MODE?

“delle Venezie” DOC Pinot grigio wines can only be sold in glass bottles (maximum capacity 6 liters) “atin” or screw caps closed. 2 to 6 liters’ bag-in-boxes are allowed while for sparkling versions it is possible to use bottle in volumes up to 18 liters. DOC Pinot grigio “delle Venezie” must be bottled and each package must exhibit the Italian State Government seal (banderole) as a guarantee of the verified and certificated productive process by “Triveneta Certificazioni”.

DOES THE ITALIAN GOVERNMENT SEALS (“FASCETTE/BANDEROLES”) MUST BE USED EVEN ON BAG-IN-BOX?

YES. National dispositions and “delle Venezie” production specifications establish that the banderole must be applied on any kind of package, bag-in-box included, in a way to prevent any re-use.

WHAT ABOUT FOREIGN BOTTLERS?

To bottle “delle Venezie” DOC Pinot grigio, the following conditions must be met:

  1. bulk wines sent to the be bottled have to respect what specificated in the Control plan-sheet n.2 winemakers then respecting the physical-chemical eligibility realased following Italian Ministerial procedures through “Triveneta Certificazioni” control body;
  2. when the transport document is released (Control plan-sheet n.2 winemakers) “Triveneta Certificazioni” automatically signs up the information about the bottler/receiving subject on the control-plan system;
  3. arter bottling, the bottler will officially announce the number of bottles/pieces produced and the resulting number of banderoles used to “Triveneta Certificazioni” following the special document available (and as described in the “Control Plan-sheet n.1)
  4. importers/bottlers are subjected to documentary/analytical inspection/verification activities as any Italian bottler

BANDEROLES SIZES AND FORMAT TO USE ON BOTTLED DOC “DELLE VENEZIE” PINOT GRIGIO WINES

Current Banderoles are produced in the common-standard version with no customization.
Light blue-colored in various tones like:

Self-adhesive banderole dimension:
- 105x17 mm, normally put on round neck on Bordeaux-type. 4.000 pcs-horizontal reel distribution (Pizze). Each bottler will receive the right number following of the total number of bottler to produce. Each reel can be “broken” if needed.
- 80x17 mm vertical banderoles, generally for Champagne-type bottles (Prosecco or any sparkling wines type). 4.000-8.000 pcs Vertical-reel distribution. Each bottler will receive the right number following of the total number of bottler to produce. Each reel can be “broken” if needed.
- 105x17mm
- 80x17 mm
- 120x17 mm non adhesive banderole (glue on banderole), 2.000 pcs/box. Before usage these banderoles can be cut up to 80 x 17 mm only if any written on it will be maintained (DM august 2nd 2011).

Paper DOC-DOCG banderole, water based acrylic adhesive, is affected by climatic variations of the storage environment; the product, therefore:

a) must be stored in a dry, constant temperature place avoiding any exposure to direct sunlight (best conditions are 20-25°C, 50-60% relative humidity)

b) maintenance of the original package until the moment of use

USE

a) self-adhesive banderole must be applied on completely dry surfaces by pressing in a uniform and effective way (1 kgf/cm)

b) banderole application on materials different from glass does not ensure the best paste

c) increasing the roughness of the surface the adhesion strength decreases

d) it better not to use any silicone-based “detachable” product for PVC capsules, polylaminate etc.

IF A FOREING CLIENT BUYS THE BULK WINE AND BOTTLES ITSELF, THE BANDEROLES MUST BE PURCHASED AND SENT TO THE CUSTOMER BY THE WINEMAKER? CAN THE FINAL USED DIRECTLY BUY THEM? WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR FOREIGN BOTTLERS TO PAY THE RIGHT AMOUNT AS PREDICTED BY THE CONTROL PLAN?

In the specific case of any “delle Venezie” bulk wine supplying to the foreign direct-bottler, the banderoles have to be provided by the final bottler. The Control Body (OdC) will deliver them directly to the bottler after having received the official documents available on the website www.dellevenezie.it/en/technical-information,

According to the data listed in the product accompanying documents, the foreign bottler will automatically be registered in the Control Body’s telematics register.

After the conclusion of the packaging operations the bottler must confirm to Triveneta the numbers of the production. As for any Italian bottler, Triveneta will send the request of payment of the total amount in relation of the volumes bottled.

WHICH ARE THE PRICE OF THE BANDEROLES THAT WILL BE USED AND THE FEE OF BOTTLING THE CUSTOMER (BOTTLER) SHOULD PAY?

The control plan available on the Consortium website http://dellevenezie.it/en/technical-information/  lists as following:

Bottler, € 0,35 € /hl wine bottled (+IVA)

Single banderole value (in the self-adhesive and non-adhesive both) € 0,015 (+IVA).

WHICH CONTROL BODY DO I SHOULD TALK TOGETHER WITH FOR THE CERTIFICATION OF PINOT GRIGIO AND WHICH COSTS MUST BE SUMITTED?

The Italian Ministry of Agriculture has recognized as Certification body for “delle Venezie” DOC and “Trevenezie” IGT wines Triveneta certificazioni Srl society.

IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVE TRACEABILITY SYSTEM?

No! “delle Venezie” control Plan expressly provides the Italian Government Seal use.

WHICH IS THE CORRECT INDICATION OF LABELING BETWEEN: PINOT GRIGIO DOC DELLE VENEZIE 2017, PINOT GRIGIO DELLE VENEZIE DOC 2017?

According with EU dispositions and as specified in art. 7 sub. 5, the product specifications decree: “The name of the Pinot grigio vine variety may precede reference to the denomination of controlled origin "delle Venezie":

REGARDING THE NEW DOC DELLE VENEZIE WINES: IS THE USE OF 20 LT KEYKEGS ADMITTED?

“delle Venezie” DOC product specifications does not admit the use of any king of key kegs

GRAPES AND WINES PRODUCTIONS

ART. 5 SUB. 3 (WINEMAKING RULES) OF THE PRODUCT SPECIFICATION SPECIFIES THAT IN THE PRODUCTION OF PINOT GRIGIO TYPE, THE ADDITION OF WINES OR MUSTS DERIVING FROM THE “BIANCO” TYPOLOGY (BELONGING THE SAME APPELLATION DELLE VENEZIE) IS ADMITTED UP TO 15%. CAN I THEREFORE BLEND WITH GARGANEGA WINES DERIVING FROM THE RECLASSIFICATION OF ANOTHER DOC-VINTAGE 2016?

As described in sub. 3 art. 5 “delle Venezie” product specifications, blending is admitted in the case of use “…addition of musts or white wines of the type “Bianco” (art. 1 and 2 of the specifications), also of different vintages (anyway starting from vintage 2017) belonging to the same denomination “delle Venezie”...”.

It is not possible to use musts or wines taken as Garganega IGT delle Venezie or Garganega DOC Garda deriving from vintages 2016 and previous.

WE SELL OUR GRAPES TO ANOTHER WINERY, WE DO NOT PROCEED TO ANY VINIFICATION. MY VINEYARD IS MAINLY COMPOSED BY PINOT GRIGIO + OTHER AROMATIC VINES. WHICH ARE THE VINES CLASSIFICATED AS “AROMATIC”?

As described in art. 2, sub. 1.2 of “delle Venezie” product specifications, aromatic varieties not admitted to Pinot grigio DOC delle Venezie production are:

1.Malvasie varieties

2.Moscato varieties

3.il Manzoni moscato

4.Glera

5.Palava

and Sauvignon (even if non-aromatic)

WE OWN VINEYARDS IN VERONA PROVINCE AND WE SELL OUR ENTIRE GRAPE PRODUCTION. TALKING TOGETHER OUR VINEGROWERS, THEY TELL ME THAT I CAN SELL THEM AS “DOC DELLE VENEZIE BIANCO”, CAN YOU PLEASE CAN EXPLAIN HOW DO I SHOULD ACT?

According to the potential of this winery you can charge the grapes as following:

Main varieties (50% at least)

Garganega used for delle Venezie bianco

Chardonnay used for delle Venezie bianco

Complementary varieties (remainder up to 100%)

Yellow Muscat used for delle Venezie bianco

Durella used for delle Venezie bianco

Yellow Muscat and Durella grapes quantities to produce “delle Venezie Bianco” typology are calculated basing on main varieties vineyard surfaces (Garganega and Chardonnay) and on relative production obtained during the same vintage.

CONSIDERING BLENDING WITH COMPLEMENTARY GRAPES FOR 15%, ACCORDING WITH PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS: -VERSION 1 GRAPES SUPPLIER OWNS BOTH PINOT GRIGIO AND CHARDONNAY COMPLIMENTARY OFFICIAL NAME FOR LOADING WILL BE: “CHARDONNAY SUITABLE FOR PINOT G. DOC DELLE VENEZIE” (VINEYARD BLEND)? -VERSION 2 SUPPLIER A DELIVERIES PINOT GRIGIO, SUPPLIER B DELIVERIES CHARDONNAY GRAPES OFFICIAL NAME FOR LOADING WILL BE: “CHARDONNAY USED FOR BIANCO DELLE VENEZIE” (WINERY BLENDING WITH MANIPULATION 7)?

DOC delle Venezie grapes loading will be as following:

Accordingly, that DOC delle Venezie provides Pinot grigio (in the still, spumante and sparkling) and Bianco versions, there is no “suitable for blending” typology.
Winemaker/bottler, during the preparation of the parcel that will be bottled, can realize a blending as regulated in art. 5 sub. 3 of the product specifications as following:
“in the vinification of the Pinot grigio typology the addition of musts or white wines of the type “Bianco”, also of different vintages belonging to the same denomination “delle Venezie” is allowed up to a maximum limit of 15%, provided that the vineyard of the Pinot grigio grapes used in the vinification is cultivated in varietal purity or in any case that the presence of grapes used in the vinification is cultivated in varietal purity or in any presence of the grapes of the complementary varieties referred to in art. 2, par.1, in addition to those allowed for said practice, does not excel that percentage”.

In the case of the question submitted you should proceed as following:

VERSION 1
Preparing the grapes to produce Pinot grigio delle Venezie DOC (according to art 2, sub. 1 product specification) Pinot grigio and Chardonnay grapes have to be delivered from a unique supplier (farm) and have to be charged as following:
Pinot grigio grapes à “Pinot grigio atto DOC delle Venezie”
Chardonnay grapes à “Chardonnay atto a Pinot grigio DOC delle Venezie”
By the end of the deadline for the submission of the harvest-declaration these grapes will constitute the unique wine (Pinot grigio min 85%, Chardonnay max 15%) – the information must be declared in the official sheets that will move with the must/wine. On these documents definitions and Italian north-east ICQRF codes should be specified. More information (in Italian) are available on:

VERSION 2
In the case of the presence that a second supplier (farm) will delivery only Chardonnay, the product will be charged as following:
Chardonnay grape à “Chardonnay atto a bianco DOC delle Venezie”
In the case of sale of the product the information as in the Version 1 must be written in the official sheets derived from the winery as in the documents that will move together with the wine/must. Further manipulation (for example blending 7) must be indicated.

IS IT POSSIBILE TO REALIZE A BLEND BETWEEN PINOT GRIGIO DOC VENEZIE 2017 AND CUSTOZA DOC 2016 WINES?

DOC delle Venezie realize its first vintage in 2017, it not possible to create any blend with older vintages. Blending can be realized only with products suitable to “Bianco delle Venezie” starting from harvest 2017.

According with the new Italian law 238/16, in the future, reclassifying wines from another DOC to create e new wine “atto a delle Venezie DOC bianco” will be possible. This operation will be possible only if wines previously destined to another DOC will be compatible with disposition written in DOC “delle Venezie” product specification and according with the relative control plan and traceability.

Subsequently to reclassification, those wines (with volumes will be reported in “delle Venezie DOC bianco” column) could be used for the “blending” operation according with art. 5 of the “delle Venezie” product specifications.

ABOUT THE 15% CUTTING IN PINOT GRIGIO DOC DELLE VENEZIE 2017, IS IT POSSIBILE TO PROCEED WITH OTHER VINTAGE WINES AS GARGANEGA DELLE VENEZIE IGT 2016 (RECLASSIFIED TO GARGANEGA DELLE TRE VENEZIE IGT '16?

“Blending” oenological operation of a quantity of Pinot grigio can be realized only with wines/musts “bianco” derived from the same appellation.

It is not finally possible to use Garganega wines currently classified as IGT.

BIANCO DOC DELLE VENEZIE USED FOR BLENDING CAN BE PRODUCED USING AROMATICI VARIETIES? THERE IS NO BOUNDS IN THE PRODUCTION OF BIANCO DOC DELLE VENEZIE, THEORETICALLY 50% CAN BE COMPOSED BY AROMATIC VARIETIES; TO BE BLENDED WITH PINOT GRIGIO, OTHERWISE, THIS WINE CAN NOT CONTAIN AROMATIC VARIETIES BECAUSE IT IS FORBIDDEN TO HAVE THEM IN THE 15% THAT CAN BE USED IN PINOT GRIGIO DOC; IF IT IS CORRECT, DO WE HAVE TO SEPARATE THE “BIANCO TO PRODUCE PINOT GRIGIO DOC DELLE VENEZIE (WITH NO AROMATIC VARIETIES INSIDE, SO SUITABLE FOR BLENDING) AND “BIANCO CONTAINING AROMATIC VARIETIES” (SO NOT SUITABLE FOR BLENDING)?

Art. 2 of “delle Venezie” product specifications explains that:

Pinot grigio DOC wines (sub 1, second part) – prohibition to use as complementary varieties for the 15% blending aromatic varieties including Sauvignon, …
Bianco DOC wines – the presence of all the varieties admitted to cultivation in the province, including aromatic varieties.

“Blending” (art. 5, sub. 3): it is admitted in the preparation of Pinot grigio wines the use of musts and wines deriving from DOC the same delle Venezie appellation “Bianco” typology.

Product specification does not limit the presence of aromatic varieties in the must/wine “Bianco” typology that will be used for blending.
As result you do not have to create different wines “atto a delle Venezie DOC” suitable for cutting without the presence of aromatic varieties.

For example, a bottler buys:

Winemaker A: a certain quantity of “atto a Pinot grigio delle Venezie DOC” (wines to produce Pinot grigio DOC delle Venezie) obtained with 92% Pinot grigio grapes and 8% Garganega grapes.

Winemaker B: a certain quantity of “atto a delle Venezie DOC bianco” obtained with 60 Garganega grapes and 40% Moscato bianco grapes, following (according with art.5 sub.3 of the product specification) the winemaker proceeds in the creation of a new blend ready to be bottled adding a volume of “atto a delle Venezie DOC bianco” (7%) up to create the final 15% of non-Pino grigio wine. This operation can be organized as resulting from sub.3, art.5 of the product specification as following:
“3. In the vinification of the Pinot grigio typology the addition of musts or white wines of the types “Bianco”, also of different vintages belonging to the same denomination “delle Venezie”, is allowed up to a maximum limit of 15%, provided that the vineyard of the Pinot grigio grapes used in the vinification is cultivated in varietal purity or in an case that the presence of the grapes of the complementary varieties referred to in art.2, par.1, in addition to those allowed for said practice, does not exceed that percentage”.

STARTING WITH THE NEXT HARVEST WE WILL COORDINATE A WORK-ACCOUNT FOR A WINERY THAT WILL BOTTLE OUTSIDE THE PRODUCTION AREA. THIS WILL INCLUDE SWEETENING. A) EVEN IF IN THE SPECIAL CASE OF A WORK-ACCOUNT, DO WE should REALIZE THE APPROVAL REQUEST? WE ARE GOING TO HOLD THE WINE JUST IN THE PRODUCTION CHAIN, THE WINERY WILL BOTTLE IT. B) SWEETENING CAN BE REALIZE EVEN AFTER THE APPROVAL? C) SWEETENING CAN BE REALIZED ON AN APPROVED LOT EVEN OUTSIDE THE PRODUCTION AREA?

You must certificate the DOC delle Venezie wine produced.

After-certification sweetening is admitted if the winery will immediately communicate the new data and the added quantity, augmentative, and if the operation does not modify the final taste.

No sweetening outside production area is admitted.

ABOUT THE INDICATION “FROM STRAW YELLOW TO GOLDEN YELLOW, ATIMES AUBURN OR PINKISH”, DOC DELLE VENEZIE PINOT GRIGIO COLOUR HAS TO BE CONSIDERED YELLOR OR WHEN LABELLING IT IS POSSIBLE TO SPECIFY OTHER TONALITIES (AUBURN/PINKISH)?

It is important to specify that the product specification expect a unique typology of Pinot grigio (in the still, spumante and sparkling versions): no delle Venezie auburn or pinkish Pinot grigio typology formally exists.

Regarding the color-intensity if the wine has a “auburn or pinkish” shades, those indications must be written in the label according the labelling and presentation disposition ad indicated in the Italian DM 13 august 2012: a pinkish-tonality Pinot grigio DOC delle Venezie can be indicated in the label following the art.14, sub.2 as:

“in the context of the description elements …of processing and/or product characteristics, clearly separated from the mandatory indications.

-those indications have to be written in characters, dimensions non exceeding 3 mm high and/or using special characters not bigger than ¼ of those used for the DOP...”.

TRANSITORIAL RULES AND OTHER PROVISIONS

WHICH ARE THE MAIN FULFILLMENTS TO CONTINUE SELLING PINOT GRIGIO IGT WINES PRODUCED IN VINTAGES 2016 AND PREVIUS AND WHICH WILL BE THEIR destination?

Pinot grigio wines, also those blended with other vines, deriving from harvest 2016/2017 and previous, obtained following the previous product specification can be commercialized to exhaustion if:

1) bottled before July 31th 2018;

2) interested bottler must submit the declaration of quantities (bulk) before august 1st 2017 to the Italian ICQRF relative office and to the Control Body before September 30th 2017.

Wines bottled before the expressed conditions has no limit for commercialization.

MAIN TIMING FOR RE-CLASSIFICATION OF IGT 2016 FROM VENETO (OR OTHERS) TO DELLE VENEZIE?

According with each IGT Transitional Labeling Italian Ministerial Decree, between august 1st 2017 and July 31st 2018 wineries can manage the movements, including re-classification.

ON JULY 31ST 2017 WE HAVE A CERTAIN QUANTITY OF DELLE VENEZIE IGT BULK WINE (PINOT GRIGIO AND OTHER VARIETIES BASED) AS WORKING ACCOUNT. WE DO NOT WANT TO RE-QUALIFY IT AS TREVENEZIE IGT, WHO SHOULD COMMUNICATE THE AMOUNT OF BULK WINE TO ICQRF OR THE RESPONSIBLE CONTROL BODY? THE WINERY AS BUK WINE’S HOLDER OR THE CUSTOMER AS OWNER?

Communications are responsibility of the subject who holds the wine.

STARTING WITH AUGUTST 1ST IS IT POSSIBLE TO PROCEED TO RE-CLASSIFY A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PIOT GRIGIO (OTHER TIPOLGY) IGT MARCA TREVIGIANA/VENETO TO IGT DELLE VENEZIE TO BE READY TO SELL IT? DO WE MUST ORGANIZE SPECIAL COMMUNICATIONS?

Of course, until July 31st 2018 the winery can, according to the current practice, re-classify IGT Marca Trevigiana/Veneto Wines to IGT delle Venezie without any further special communication.

CONSORTIUM AND ADHESION MODELS

IN 2016 WE HA BOUGHT A GREAT AMOUNT OF PINOT GRIGIO GRAPES TO PRODUCE PINOT GRIGIO VENETO IGT, WHAT DO I MUST INDICATE ON THE ADHESION MODEL?

You must indicate on the adhesion model the only quantitative of grapes deriving from vineyards of property, as already indicated in the grape harvested declaration.

You must indicate both the wines self-produced or resulting the grapes bough.

I AM WINEMAKER, HOW MUCH TO I MUST PAY TO BE MEMBER?

According with art. 6 of the Consortium Statute, to become member the total amount to pay is € 300,00. The following table represents the entire amounts to pay in relation to the main activity realized.

The Board of Directors established the following table as schedule of contribution to be paid for the second semester 2017/first four months 2018 - 2017/2018 (ART. 7 CONSORTIUM STATUE).

Vinegrower: € 9,00 per 100 q grape claimed
Winemaker: € 11,00 per 70 hl wine claimed
Bottler: € 14,00 per 70 hl wine bottled

Contribution relating remaining period of 2018 will be determined by the Board of Directors basing on 2017 grape harvest declaration data.

IN THE ATTACHMENTS FOR THE REQUEST TO BECOME MEMBER IS REQUIRED THE VITICLE SCHEDULE REPRESENTING THE SURFACES FOR PINOT GRIGIO GRAPES PRODUCTION. OUR VITICLE SCHEDULE IS DIVIDED IN DIFFERENT PAGES. DO YOU NEED THE ENTIRE DOCUMENT? WHERE CAN WE INDICATE ICQRF NUMBER?

The Consortium only needs surfaces where you base to produce Pinot grigio, for the last harvest still IGT. ICQRF code can be written close to the address.
