Canada is one of the largest consumer wine importing countries (6th place in the world in 2017 with 419 million liters of imported wine) and is the 2nd country in the world for growth speed.

In 2017, according to data published by the Canadian Vintners Association, wine consumption in Canada was 467 million liters (+ 1.2%), of which 30% of local production, 14% imported from Italy and 13% from the USA.

According to data published by Statistics Canada, in 2017 Italy exported 80 million liters of wine (+ 9%) to Canada, confirming its position as the absolute top supplier in quantity, while in value, with CAD 515 million (+ 7% ) Italy ranks second after France.

The latest data available for the first two months of 2018 validate the trend of recent years. Italy confirms itself as the leading supplier country, both in terms of value and quantity, registering a growth rate twice as important as the world average.

The promotional events organized by ICE in Montreal and Toronto have seen the presence of more than 70 companies organized in Walkaround Tasting where their wines were presented to the agreed operators: importers, representatives of the monopoly, Ho.Re.Ca., journalists specialized, opinion leaders, wine lovers.

To open the Montreal tasting day, a tasting dedicated to Italian Pinot Grigio coordinated by ICE and led by Walter Filipputi together with Matre Sommelier and founder of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers Jacques Orhon where the denominations of the Triveneto area were presented in a historical-cultural path that has linked the Italian Northeast to this important variety.
